Housing Choice Voucher Program (Section 8)
The Housing Choice Voucher Program helps eligible low-income families, seniors, and individuals with disabilities afford safe and decent housing in the private rental market. Administered locally by the Pittsfield Housing Authority, the program provides a rental subsidy paid directly to the landlord, while participants pay a portion of their income toward rent and utilities.
Families may choose any qualifying unit that meets program requirements and passes a Housing Quality Standards inspection. This flexibility supports housing choice, stability, and access to a wide range of neighborhoods.
Project-Based Voucher Program (PBV)
The Project-Based Voucher Program provides rental assistance tied to specific housing units. Eligible households receive affordable housing by leasing a designated PBV unit, with rent based on their income and a subsidy paid directly to the property owner. Administered by the Pittsfield Housing Authority, PBV units must meet all HUD requirements and remain affordable under a long-term contract.
